Photographer's Note

Macau is a strange place. It used to be a Portuguese colony, which is still visible in the old buildings and street atmosphere. Also in the food sometimes.

But there are not many left who still have the old Portuguese heritage in their blood. These days Macau is China's Las Vegas. Casino's and shopping centres flourish.

But sometimes you have to look down.

This picture shows the typically Portuguese street tiles on one of the city's main squares. Their pattern evokes the waves of the sea which linked the old Portugues to their homeland.
