Photographer's Note

On my recent visit to China, I spent some time in a temple in Hangzhou, a few hours south of Shanghai. I ran across this Buddhist Monk, speaking with him for a 15 min or so, stuggling to understand his english as we made small talk of the USA and his friends here. I then asked to take his photo, which turned out to be one of those rare moments when I knew, at that point, it just felt right. This was the only photo I took of him, but it felt so natural, so pleasing to take, that I knew there was no reason to go on.

In photoshop, I only slightly upped the saturation, bringing out the yellow of the banner on the right hand side out just a tad more. Then about a 10% crop and that was about it. All in all, of the 5,000 digital images I took in China, this stood out as my favorite. I will be going back for a month, maybe in April, but certainly sometime this year.

Peace
