Photographer's Note

Cambodia has an unfair share of its ugly and dark history. Like the Vietnamese, almost a generation were born and grew up during the long years wars and genocide era. You can ask anyone on the street and they will most likely be able to recall the family members and relatives who died in wars, of torture and starvation. Some estimated at 25% of the entire population perished during the Pol Pot regime which ruled Cambodia from 1975-1979.

The children of the current generation lived to hear the stories only from their parents and grandparents. They look happy without experiencing the horrific past. While waiting for the bus to depart for Siem Reap, I had spare moments to get some portrait shots of the children. At first, I was taking photos for the sister, then she brought her brother before my camera for this shot.
