Photographer's Note

This is the entrance to Jakar dzong, built in the 17th century, in Bumthang district of central Bhutan. Bumthang is the cradle of Bhutanese culture, and whereas Jakar is just a small town of limited interest, the area around it is covered with monasteries and religious shrines of various kinds.
There is one interesting point about Jakar, though, apart from the dzong: This is where the most famous Bhutanese beer is brewed, Red Panda. It comes in two varieties, a good German style Weissbier, and a gueuze tasting just like in Belgium!
This is a scanned Kodachrome slide.
