Photographer's Note

Joal-Fadiout

The twin villages of Joal and Fadiout (Fadiouth) are 110 km south of Dakar. Joal, on the mainland, was the birthplace of poet and first Senegalese president Lιopold Sιdar Senghor. A long wooden bridge Joal is connected Fadiout.

Fadiout is build on an island that's made almost entirely of clam shells. Fadiout is home of an very interesting cementary of hundreds of Christian graves, each marked by a cross and a pile of shell, as well as hundreds of Muslim graves.

I have upload a workshop so that you could see the shells in detail
