Photographer's Note

This lady was sitting outside of one of the old slave quarters at a former plantation on the Central African island of Principe. While slavery was officially abolished in the 19th Centurty, debt peonage ensured the actual institution survived until the Portuguese left Sao Tome and Principe in 1975. She says her life has been good, and she is approaching 80 years old.

I tried a new program called GIMP to tweak the colors, saturation, and sharpen a bit.
