Great mcmtanyel 2018-10-25 17:11

Hello Chris,
Exactly, better safe and sound in Germany than broken to smithereens in its native country! Well framed, well realized photo! 👍👍
Regards,

Default To mcmtanyel: Ishtar Gate

Hi Murat

There is a small part of Ishtar Gate in Istanbul Museum too featuring lions. I'd hazard a guess that in return for the German archaeologists allowed to remove ancient relics from Turkey like Pergamon in the 1930's and earlier, and take them back to Berlin, they donated a portion of the gate to the Turkish Government to appease them. I don't think that would work these days.
