Great SteveH 2009-08-03 21:48

Hi Lee, good to see something from your travels. Must have been an incredible moment, looking down into the glowing depths of a volcano as the sun came up. Both elements of the forces which shape our planet. On the image, I might have gone for slightly less central positioning of the red glow, although hopefully without losing the other mountain on the right - could you have moved a little to the left? The wisp of smoke is a nice addition. On the frame - it might have been could to have the white line at the edge of the image, to separate the border from the picture better in the really dark areas. A very good TE image. Cheers, Steve

Default To SteveH: Useful advice!

Hi Steve,

Thanks for some useful advice. Particularly about the frame. I'd never have thought of that in a million years!

As for the composition, really this is just pot luck and I know it's not ideal. It was so dark I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder and so I just pointed it roughly where I thought it would be OK and pressed go. At 30 seconds a shot (I limited them to this long), and with the light evolving fast as the sun rose over the horizon I didn't want to waste to much time taking lots of photos of the same thing. I do have one other of this scene, but this was the best of the two. Thankfully I also have at least 3 others from here I'll be adding on TE. The place was incredible.

Thanks again for your comments - they're always useful (unlike some here on TE)! You have a fantastic collection of photos. I'm envious!

All the best
