Default Durability of 20D

I was just wondering if anyone knows HOW tough the body of the 20D is? I want to know that my paranoia is justified, or if i can be a little more lenient.

Well, it probably depends on what do you want to do with it :) As a camera, it's decently tough even if not waterproof.

I've been using mine for 18 months now under many different conditions (snow, rain, dust and desert sun in Jordan, tropical atmosphere in Brazil, freezing night shots...) and it stood all this pretty well.

If you have anything specific in mind, please ask and I'll try to answer.

Regards,

Steven

And 18,000 shots without any problem.

I believe that Maciej Dakowicz had some trouble with his one but he's a really tough photographer and surely took far more pictures than me :)

Cheers,

Steven

haha...
yes, my 20D died after 11 months and around 30000 shots, suddenly the camera became inresponsible, none of the buttons worked. I got it repaired and I think it works now (haven't checked the camera yet ;). and my 20D got a new sensor - there was a small black dot on the sensor that I could not remove while cleaning the sensor - the people in the service couldn't remove it either, so they changed the sensor ;)
but 20D is a good camera, I liked it a lot, the body seems to be robust and pictures quality is very good.

So now you have a 5D and a 20D? Man, Im jealous. 30 000 shots? Oh god, thats a lot. On a good day Ill take 30 shots and wind up liking 25% of them enough to bother with post production. But Ive never gone to India or the other awesome places youve been.

That's a pretty good ratio. I'm trigger happy when I shoot (maybe cuz I've never had a film camera), although when I do come across a scene I like I'll take about 10 shots of it to make sure I get it right.

Generally speaking, if I fill my card up (100 shots) then I'd expect about 10 to make it into photoshop, and about 5 to make it onto TE

I have had my 20D about 5 months and have taken 2 or 3k pictures. It works very well, seems to be built very well. The only downer is that due to the fact it is built well, it does weigh a bit. I have not use it a lot yet but it seems to be built very well. Good luck!
