Default Re: Critiques - how long does it take you?

Sometimes the words flow, and it's only a minute or two; other times I've literally looked at an image for days to try and work out why it isn't floating my boat.

Ironically, it's critiquing the uncritiqued that I often find the most challenging task. Why? Because some of them seem almost uncritiquable to me. There's nothing seriously wrong except a lack of that essential je ne sais quoi; but "je ne sais quoi" literally means you don't know what. If you can't work out why you don't like it, you can't really critique it ;)

Writing doesn't take the time, it's finding the reasons you need to write about that take me the time.

To everyone who has actually taken the time to think; keep up the good work!

I have discovered an odd thing about critiques. The people who give me the worst ones, with no suggestions on how I might improve either my settings or PP, are really no help at all. It is a subjective opinion on a particular shot. And I know about those. I see a lot of photos that others absolutely love and I am not impressed. It doesn't mean they aren't fantastic shots, they are just not my cup of tea. I simply think that if you have no suggestions for some kind of improvement, you should just skip it and critique one you like.

Shelly,
seems we're veering off the subject:)
I think it is hard to write 'constructive' critiques. You have to learn where to look, how to express yourself and find the guts to do so.
And then you have to find your new friends on TE,
more time because you get all this feedback
and motivation
and friendships
and better critiques
and ideas
and . . . .

it takes me a long time ;-)
