Question going to Colorado Plateau

I am making a solo truck/camper trip to the Colorado Plateau, probably in September - early October. This could include southern Utah, southern Colorado and northern Arizona - also called "Four Corners". We had a quick jaunt through there in '05, to Zion, North Rim Grand Canyon, etc. but I want to go back and find some out of the way places and spend some "quality time" with my camera gear.

Any ideas for some of those special places that you have been?

Is it worth it to do the tour into Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley or should I stay on my own? Are there too many tourists (like I am not one, ha ha)?

Is September - October a good time to go or should I try to get down in May - June? We were in southern Colorado in October during fantastic fall colors, but it was pretty cold in places.

Thanks ...... Dave
