Great mcmtanyel 2019-02-22 20:54

Hello MarieLouise,
This is a fine shot of a fine, but unrealistic statue. I am pretty sure nakedness would be frowned upon among the Israelites of Saul's time.
Regards,
MT

Hi Murat,
You are right, but Art often doesn't restrain itself by historical bias.
This Baroque Art derives itself from the Renaissance Art which had enhanced the beauty of the human body, as in Antiquity.
The Baroque style followed suit, but was characterized by sustained movements, exuberance of forms, dramatic effects...
Surprisingly, at the time, these artists were supported by the Christian Church, which was more open to the freedom of artistic creation than later on, during the Puritan era.
Thanks for your interest and kind regards.
Marie-Louise.
