Default Very good Idea my friend Chris

The idea to prevent the member, and then he can make a correction to the note, everybody knows that we can modify the note at any moment.
It's the best way to do for the moderators.

First contact the member in private, after , if the member do nothing or don't justify itself...maybe delete the picture.

(sorry for my poor english)

Default A Laurent.....

I agree with Laurent, why the note with greetings in many languages should be not meaningful? As we can read in old version of TE, the TE-menbers come from 127 countries. In many countries they speak many different languages so the number of languages spoken on TE is even higher. So what was wrong that Jaap wanted to address them all? Why he was pu nished for it? it was nice that I found there Polish greetings, someone answered in Bengali, (and Burmese was missing). But anyway the solution was so easy - to ask Jaap to consider the change of the note. So simple. On the other hand, I think that he acted too rush but the Christmas time is the time of big emotions. Someone leave rthe site, others feel soliidarity and we observe the result - our good friends leave. When someone is an excellent photographer, with a big contribution, it is a big loos to our community.

As to what Keith wrote:"The image was not deleted, it was moved to a holding area to give the member time to submit a Review Request. At the time the image was removed the member was sent an email giving the reason the image was removed. If a Review Request had been received we would simply have requested that a more meaningful note be added and I have no doubt that the image would then have been reinstated.
The member chose not to follow this route but instead to delete all their images from the site.
Other members who had images removed for the same reason have followed the normal process and submitted a Review Request. Those images will be reinstated as long as the member agrees to improve the note.

My image also disappeared very quickly. I showed there a photo of poinsettia. but it was not the flower in the pot, as we see i n Europe, but the big bush (almost tree) growing in Myanmar, so it was not the "common object". And in the TOS it is written that even common objects are allowed when have an suitable note that other members can learn from it. I provided the photo with a suitable note, quite extensive, explaining where the plant grows and why it is used as a symbol of Christmas in some continents. I think it was educative. But I got an e-mail, the photo was w/o note. I sent an explanation and got no answer and the photo was not reinstated. So this route just doesn't work.

And to kajenn - "And those always laying in wait for something like this to occur - it's almost always the same ones - and using it as a reason to attack the moderators, have long ago lost their credibility. Over and over again...

Do you have me in mind?

Default Kajenn, you are not...

Kajenn, you are not serious are you???

“And those always laying in wait for something like this to occur - it's almost always the same ones - and using it as a reason to attack the moderators, have long ago lost their credibility.”

Checking your TE record shows three movements for the last six months, two critiques and one forum message. I hope you see how funny your statement looks in this light?

Groet, Gerrit

To simplify my idea:

* TE Admin should first contact the member > No response / effort > delete image

NOT

* Delete image > contact member

Deleting an image immediately should only be used for extreme violations, such as porn, stolen images & the like.

I have just received an e-mail from Keith that my photo with Poinsettia was reinstated. He suggested me to provide the link to Wikipedia, and I made this change. Thanks, Keith.

As usually, it is worth waiting a bit and cooling. Anyway, deleting all the pictures in a moment of being angry is a bad move, something like suicide, as it is difficult or impossible to move back. It is regrettable that such an effort of many people - Jaap's as photographer and many people critiquing them, is distoyed with just one click.
I read also in the Forum that the account with stolen photos was disabled. Such an action of mods is appreciated.

*NB: TE admins are not TE moderators.
** NB: Photos are NOT deleted, just inactivated.

Do you have any idea about how much time it could cost to reach every day about 20 people having trespassed the TOS? We actually do that for about 5 people a day when they are new members so we presume they haven't found/read the TOS rules yet...
But I think the "seniors members" should know about what can and what can't.

What is wrong about these photos for instance: http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo1337530.htm or http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo1337395.htm

Both are wonderful photos, both having great & sufficient notes, both fully according the TOS, both from people never having (or giving) problems with us and both Wishing All a Merry Christmas to their friends on TE!

Hi Emka,

Don't forget though that a long note just copied & paste from Wikipedia is not enough. (Also, without a link to your source, it's just a stolen information or violation of copyrights)
Even if you add a link to your source we expect a good note written by yourself, a couple of well thoughts lines should be enough...
