Great emka 2019-07-16 0:03

Hello Benny, I am used to the spelling Brueghel and to the English pronunciation. Anyway, I love his paintings and this exhibition must be a great experience. Maybe this is why I like the Museum of Kunstgeschite in Vienna so much.
What is the reason for these festivities? 450 year of death anniversary?
Excellent presentation of this castle with the beautiful garden.
Kind regards MAlgo

Default To emka: 450 years

Yes, the occasion is the 450th anniversary of his death. But it 's just an alibi, really...
The biggest exhibition of Brueghel was in Vienna. Unfortunately, we didn't get there.

Another name (for me maybe more important) , that I am not sure how to pronounce is Huygens. What is the Dutch pronunciation?

Hello Malgo,

You can find all such information on Google. In this case:
https://forvo.com/word/huygens/
Always make sure you get a pronunciation by someone from that country, whichever it may be. Don't listen to any examples of how e.g. an Albanian (or Polish) name is pronounced in English.

Best wishes,
Gert

Note on spelling: Huygens includes the old style "uy", which in modern Dutch becomes "ui". It's one of the double vowel sounds which are typical for Dutch. (cfr. the "eu" in Breughel.)

The pronunciation in the useful link sent by Gert is perfect.
