Default How do I upload my pics to make them larger on TE

In other words, how many pixels per inch or what should my width x height settings be.I'm using LIGHTROOM for exporting files. My post is at:ttp:// and you can see that my photo would be more enjoyable if it were larger. Thanks for the help, Jack

*First re-size your photo to 800pixels on the longest side. You have to tick constrain proportions so the shorter side will take care of itself.
*Check to see if it needs sharpening as re-sizing that small will make it lose sharpness. I sharpen Amount 100%, 0.1 pixels
*Save it with the correct compression to make the file less than 300kb. Amount of compression needed depends on the detail in the image, so you have to use trial and error to get it right.
At a guess you kept changing the dimensions to reach under 300kb instead of increasing the compression.
Good luck with your next upload and welcome to TE.

Excellent post from Kath in which she seems to have guessed what your problem is.

Me, I resize the photo to 700 pixels on its longer border, leaving 100 pixels for a frame. I create a frame by increasing the 'Canvas Size' with a combination of black and white. But I don't know if you can do this in Lightroom, as I'm unfamiliar with the program. Some people include frames, others don't; it's just a personal preference. But before I do the actual resizing of the dimensions I change the resolution to 72 or 96 pixels per inch (I think that in Lightroom this is all in the File... Export menu), it hardly matters which as you are resizing for the screen, not a printer.

Of course, you CAN have a square photo of 800 x 800, which you sometimes see on TE. That is the largest screen area you can have for an upload.
