Default To holmertz: discussion

Hello Gert,
thank you
I'm very glad to hear your opinion concerning both my photo and the political situation!

Quote:
It's just so very sad that today you have a leader who threatens the European peace through crimes against international law and deceitful propaganda, acting pretty much like Hitler did, "liberating" Crimea and possibly preparing the "Anschluss" of eastern Ukraine. I have absolutely nothing against the Russian people, or any other people, but I strongly dislike - and fear - the present leaders in the Kremlin who seem intent on starting the cold war once again and bringing back the iron curtain.
You may be surprised, but I do not agree with this.

I don't consider TrekEarth to be a forum for political discussions, so if you really care to know my personal opinion, I can express it in an email - too much to write for an ordinary brief TE forum message.

Another question is whether my personal opinion will be regarded as "sober", independent and, of course, not "brainwashed" by the propaganda.. and if my opinion really matters

I have always respected you, so if you care to open a discussion - via email - you are welcome; if not - let's keep our opinions to ourselves and simply continue posting photos and interesting Notes to them - I don't mind this variant at all

You know why I respect Sweden? because you are smart enough not to be a NATO member and also preserved your own currency, which means a lot.

kind regards,
Elena

I wonder if the NATO bombing (and subsequent destroying) of Yugoslavia in 1999 (on Easter) was much better than peaceful (without a single shot) return of the Crimea back to Russia?

I think you, as a journalist, must remember that that NATO military operation in 1999 was not authorised both by the UN and by the UN Security Council, and it was against a sovereign nation that was not a threat to the NATO members.

According to Wikipedia:
During that NATO bombing "over 2,000 civilians were killed, including 88 children, and thousands more were injured. Over 200,000 ethnic Serbs were forced to leave their homeland in Kosovo. NATO airstrikes destroyed more than 300 schools, libraries, and over 20 hospitals. At least 40,000 homes were either completely eliminated or damaged and about 90 historic and architectural monuments were ruined."

And after that NATO countries dare to accuse Russia of something?...

In any case, I strongly differentiate between ordinary people of any nation and political leaders /heads of states. Ordinary people never want war or other conflicts. But they - the weakest of them - may get brainwashed, indeed.
