Whether you should buy it really depends on what you find wrong with your existing lenses; assuming you already have some.

It's a reasonable lens for the money, but if you find you can't fit enough in the frame you might be better off with something wider like the 17-85 IS.

Whether IS is useful to you really depends on your shooting style; if you always use a tripod, then it's worthless; but if you're shooting a lot handheld in low light it can be very useful indeed.

Something else to consider is a faster lens; i.e. one with a wider maximum aperture. The most affordable is the 50mm f1.8. Obviously if you're shooting at f1.8 then the depth of field is very shallow, so you need to get your focussing spot on. Again, it really depends on what you're shooting as to whether that'll be useful or not.

The macro capability of the 28-135 is reasonable, but not outstanding.

If your budget allows I suspect the 17-55 IS f2.8 would be the best option for you; as it's both reasonably fast, is fairly wideangle, and it has IS.

Remember that on a crop body; such as your 30D, the 28-135 becomes an effective 44-216; which is a bit long for indoor use, unless you're shooting more distant subjects...

As I say it really depends on your shooting style, your budget, and your subject matter.

....i susgest this Canon - EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Zoom Lens ..try it and let me know.
its well built and has a good range for indoor shooting + macro. its also image stablized so u can pretty much handheld it any time.
it produces pretty sharp images as i experienced. its a good lens considering the price......

In the last few days in the forums were a comparison between the canon lens and sigma. i recall the sigma came top. with the pictures a lot more sharper and natural.

Please look out for those shots. Pretty nice work.

take care.
