Default Repost part of limit...

Hi all,

I havn't been around for a long time, and already I'm bitching...

The daily upload limit of one photo is great. Makes you pay more attention to that one photo. But... as I'm learning, I need to be able to correct my errors and move on. Right now, I post one pic a day, and occasionally someone has a goof point as to what I should change (need to pay more attention to final sharpening) so I go ahead and do that and Re-Post that photo. But then... I can't take the new found skills and apply them to another picture until the day afterwards, because my upload limit has been reached. That is really frustrating.

I realize I could do a workshop on my own photo and thus bypass the upload/repost limit, but I have the feeling workshops were meant to be used for other's photos, not ones own.

My suggestion: Per day limits: 1 Upload, 1 Repost, 2 Workshops

Comments?

I can understand your reasoning, but there is one problem with it. The one post limit was introduced because so many images were hitting the Gallery each day. Yesterday 40 pages of images hit the system. That means that on average a picture only remained on the 1st page for approximately 40 minutes before disappearing again.
Allowing re-posts would make that situation worse as re-posts also go to the Gallery. Workshops don't and so impact on the system less.

Ok, that being how it is, I can see where that comes from... though I would think that reposts need not go to the front page, as if it didn't catch anyones eye the first time around, minor changes aren't going to be noticeable in the thumbnail. If the change is so immense that it can be easily seen in the thumbnail, possibly it warrants a post a whole new picture...

Ok, I'm just gonna wait 'till tomorrow, for my "post of the day". Thanks for your answer!

Changes between the original and the re-post aren't necessarily trivial or minor. One of my own re-posts is a case in point http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/photo372989.htm

What I think could be useful is the ability to view the original and repost versions side by side in the same way it is possible with workshops.

Trivial by no means. But minor in the sense, that it is still the same picture. So my tweaking one or two parameters (link) or taking out the motion blur (link) doesn't create a whole new picture, and nobody that didn't look at it before, is going to now. So I don't need it up on the front page a second time, and if that is the reason for the combined limit, *I'd* rather give up the repost-to-frontpage "right".

I totally agree with you, that a post/repost comparison (like in a workshop would) makes sense.

I wonder why the system even allows workshops with ones own pictures...

One reason that the system allows workshops with one's own pictures is in order to facilitate elaborations upon the main picture: that's what i use many of my workshops for. Sometimes there are pictures that provide added detail, information, or interest, but that wouldn't stand alone very well. i will often add these as a workshop. Other reasons include allowing critiquers to compare black and white with color and accomodating critiquers' requests for a different angle, as i have done in my last post.
