Default Geo Tagging: Am I the only one?

Hi all,

I noticed that almost nobody does use the geo-tagging feature of TE. Which I find sad as there are so many great images of wonderful locations I'd like to check out some time.

Myself, I'm a big fan of geo-tagging, even if I have to figure out the coordinates manually (GoogleEarth is of great help).

Why don't you personally use it? Too complicated/cumbersome? No idea where exactly the photo was taken?

Looking forward to read your opinions about this topic.

regards
Adrian

I don't know how to do it. Is there a web site where you can look up coordinates? My understanding was that Google Earth requires you to install some software. Isn't there any other way?

You can also use Google Maps. When you've drilled down to the photos location, click "Link to this page". The browsers URL field will now contain the coordinates (e.g. [..]ll=41.525544,-109.465027[..] for some random place in the US). Copy these into the latitude/longitude fields.

regards
Adrian

I started doing it, but then stopped as I don't think people are really too interested in checking out the location on my images.

I map on flickr though, as it has a couple of extra advantages of doing so, such as seeing other photos taken in that area as well as a world map, which plots where your photos have been taken.

I would suspect that in many instances it is a case of people not having a clue where to find the information in the first place.

You're not the only one, I've put in location data for almost all my photo's, except for those taken in or very close to my house, I just don't feel comfortable putting it's exact location in there.

Always use GoogleEarth for it, indeed very helpful.

I started doing it a couple of months ago, when I came across another TE posting (in Tips maybe?) where someone asked about it and how to find the coordinates. Until then, I hadn't paid any attention whatever to the feature. Now I add the location data for most of my photos; have even gone back to my old postings to add the info to them as well. I love playing around in Google Earth anyways, and this gives me another reason to do so!
I must admit, however, that I tend not to look out for this feature in others' photos - will have to start doing so (Adrian and Emiel, your photos will be first!).
Regards, Jackie

I use Multimap
You have just to write town map and click in the map place you will have the coordinates.
