That is a nice looking landscape design and the well-formed and well-balanced trees make for a nice shot indeed. Good job getting such clarity with a 4 sec exposure.

The advantage to using the 35mm outfit you sold in this situation is that an f2.8 shot would have nicely blurred the background due to shallower DOF. In this case since the background is dark and unobtrusive it still looks quite good. But closer to dusk with more light I think the picture would look somewhat 2D and flat because of this.

Your comparison between 35mm and digital makes perfect sense. I would eventually love a DSLR.
