Hi Gert
its funny how on the main page, this photo looks like...well..NOTHING. Just a pile of stone or rocks. So it basically forces us to click on it, knowing full well there's a good story or an interesting image to be viewed when closer up.
and it is. Looking at the WS's, seeing the exteriors...how did they carve out the stone to create an exterior looking like a building...that must have taken years to do for each one. Then they create a doorway...and you enter into WHAT, a cave? I just find it so interesting. Its almost impossible for me to understand...so inside the rock faces, they had furniture, a home, a living room, bedrooms...i just don't get it. Why go through ALL this trouble when you can probably just build a damn home! haha. There must have been an easier way to live. awesome shots
cheers
Craig

Thank you Craig,
Thumbnails are made to be clicked on. Knowing me you should know I wouldn't show just a pile of rocks. I can't understand any better than you how they could spend so much time and work on carving out huge rooms inside the rocks, but I think the chambers behind the magnificent faηades were not used for ordinary people's homes. They were probably entirely made for various ceremonial purposes, like religious matters and as the tombs of kings and queens and otherVIP's, like the Egyptian pyramids. The 30 000 or so inhabitants of the city seem to have lived in tents or simple permanent structures, which are of course long gone. Best wishes, Gert |
