Default canon 350d alternatives

hello fellow photographers,
i'm about to get a 350d as it looks the best choise for me at the moment. is it true that nikon will launch a 350 alternative more powerful than d70? (whats that model and when will it be available at the market)?
should i wait for a response of 350d competitors?
thanks in advance,
best regards

mate,

looking at the same thing myself. however, i'm not so much thinking about comparative 'alternative' to the 350D. nikon cameras are a whole different system, with different lenses, speedlights, accessories and body style. canon and nikon systems have comparative features - such is the result of how the two manufacturers have decided to compete (or collude?) with each other. but the user should always think about which SYSTEM suits them the best. think about things like the future costs of building on your system (e.g. cost of lenses etc.); and the way the different camera bodies feel in your hands (functionality is an individual thing); availability of second-hand products in your area; the future use of the camera (apparently nikon cameras are built a lot more rugged, so perhaps better for the outdoors); etc etc etc... there's heaps more to think about, and i think that other people will post more things on this message thread.

personally i'm going canon. but that's cos i've already invested in a canon system - film. i'm going to stick with film for quite some time though... maybe the EOS 1Ds Mark II full-frame sensor will become part of the future range of more affordable canon D bodies...?

good luck to you mate :-)

Default sorry

my html is poor, it is the review of the 350D (which I own now and I am quite happy with it), as others mentioned already it is the camera, the lenses, etc...

Not many people are considering the Pentax ist*Ds. But this the one I'm saving for. It's size is almost the same as the 350D but here the Pentax is a bit cheaper (although there is the 2 Mp difference). It has the same Sony CCD sensor as the the Nikon D70. It uses SD cards (which I already use with my Pda and Minolta Z3), outstanding optical viewfinder, can run on AA batteries and best of all - it's assembled here(Philippines) so I can expect better after sales repairs and service. Check also on the quality of after-sales service in you area.
