Great dougie 2007-11-17 4:43

Hi,
Looks like there's lots of scope at this location, and there's been a bit of rain in the west. Good leading composition and the colur is good, sometimes better I think on a dull day. Bound to see the occasional salmon going up the falls, unless there's a ladder. Nice one. Thanks.
Dougie.

Default To dougie: Thank you, Dougie!

Thank you for looking and for your kind remarks.

This was a pretty dull day and this was the best I could get. Work really interferes with this hobby - I wish I could get to places like this at the right time and in the right lighting conditions.

Never seen a salmon here and I'm pretty sure there's not a ladder. Certainly sea-trout get up here but I'm not sure if salmon do. Unfortunately not done any real fishing since schooldays: I used to tie my own flies in the winter. I've still most of the gear too. Funny, I was browsing a magazine recently and saw Rhode Island Red cock capes for £75: last time I bought one, it was fifteen bob!

Kind Regards,

John.

Fifteen bob! ))

I was working in Woolies to augment my grant when the changeover was made. What a todo there was. I cannot imagine reverting back to £s shillings and pence now, never mind halfpennies, farthings and threepenny bits.

And what about florins, half-crowns and guineas?

Or a groat? - the price a Dutch fellow called Jan de Groot used to charge to ferry you across from Caithness to Orkney - hence John o' Groats. You can read about him here.

John.
