To ttmhmd: Thanks!

Hi Tsutomu,
The ball is in front of the Namahage Pavillion, a museum all about the Namahage. Its not a very famous ball, so I think you wouldn't know about it unless you visited the museum.
If you...

Hi Kari,
Thanks a lot for your comments. I think Akita in winter looks a lot like Scandinavia. I shared the time with some Norwegians, and they seems right at home. :)

To cldphoto: Tassels!

"Tassel"! Thanks for reminding me of the name for this! I was trying to remember the word, but ended up calling it a "brush".
I lived in Japan for a year, and in that time I forgot so much English....

To RedDevil: Thanks!

Thanks for your comments on my photo :)
I don't have the software for adding a frame, but to be honest I don't see the need for one. You're welcome to do a workshop of my photo, to add a frame, if...

"Mind the Gap", the new album on vinyl... :P
You must have had a good look around my photos to find this old one. Thanks for taking the time.

Re: critiques with no rating are useless

I'm sorry, but I was not saying that all critiques should be removed. It is the 'no rating' critiques that I think are redundant on TE. The comment option fulfills the same function as the 'NR'...

Re: critiques with no rating are useless

I'm not arguing with the guidelines of TE. It's just that I have noticed users making 'NR' critiques that do not contain specific information as to why a photo is good or not. There are people on TE...

To racheltafoya: thanks!

Hi Rachel,
I'm not sure whether the trees are a good thing or bad. It would be good if I could remove the trees, to see what both versions would look like, but I'm not that skilled with editing. I...

Re: critiques with no rating are useless

Surely its easier to say 'it needs improvement' by saying that in the critique itself, rather than giving a 'NR' and an unhelpful comment on the photo.

My disagreement is not with the system and...

Re: critiques with no rating are useless

I agree completely with you. Comments should eb uysed to say something not necessarily linked to the technique of a photo.

Unfortunately I often see 'NR' critiques that say noting linked to the...

Re: To greg: not too difficult

I posted another photo as workshop, to show the area where the plant was found. Its not perfect as the plant isn't in shot.
I'll be returning there next month, so I'm interested in seeing if the...

Re: critiques with no rating are useless

Perhaps the title of my post was a little strong.
What I want to convey is that critiques without a rating on TE are redundant, as a critique without a rating on TE is the same as a comment.

I...

I didn't say others should agree. I shouldn't agree with you either. Everyone is welcome to their opinions. This is mine.

Re: critiques with no rating are useless

That a photo gets no critiques at all should be enough to tell someone about the quality of the photo. TE would become a terrible place for amateur and aspiring photographers if there were negative...

critiques with no rating are useless

Why leave a critique with no rating, when a comment would be better?
I've seen a lot of comments that were posted as critiques with no raiting. By having the option of both, isn't TE...

To greg: not too difficult

Its not too difficult to imagine, considering the respect that the Japanese have for nature. I'm speculating that this plant may be a protected species, but I'm not an expert so can't make a precise...

I think did a good job to get better colours from the image, but the ball is not too dark. Detail on the ball can still be seen.
Thanks for taking the time to do a workshop. :)

I think you improved some of the richness of the colour, but the Namahage Ball became too dark. A lot of the detail in the ball is lost. If there's a way to improve the colour and quality, but retain...

Hi Winifred,
Thanks for your comment!
I agree, it does seem to need rotating slightly.

I should post another photograph of this building, to show it from another angle.

Thanks,
