It's depends of the number of your forum posts.
More than 1000 posts you are a TE expert.
Finally I don't agree about this.
To be a good photographer you don't have to post 1000 threads :p
nonsense :eek:

We are all equal members

The 'rankings' are nothing to do with photographic expertise, and they don't claim to be. They are simply indicators of the amount of activity the member has on TE. That's why the rankings are TE ....... not Photographic .......

You'll find very similar rating systems on most forums and they shouldn't be taken too seriously.

«ranking» or ranking

Well well WELL...

Let's face it. An expert in a photography "site" is someone who posted many threads but not other members much appreciated images...?!!!

IMHO....

I've a simply but effective system or perhaps two ranking categories:

Here is a rational proposal for the ranking:

A Simple one which does not take into consideration the viewed numbers and favouritism of other members: Ranking type 1: R1 (absolute number)

Formula #1 = R1 = Number of points (P) per number of photos (Ph)
R1=P/Ph

A more detailed and quiça reasonable: in (%)

Formula 2 = R2 = R1/(Viewed Times)*Number of favourite members (%)

Let's take some data from 4 hypothetical members and do some calculation:)
which can easily be inserted in the profile overview page....

Member A:
Viewed 18225 times
photos uploaded:314
Points 6528
Favorite of 27 members

R1 = 20,8 R2 = 3,1 %

Member B

Viewed 109162 times
photos uploaded:1002
Points 91759
Favorite of 588 members

R1 = 91,6 R2 = 49,3 %

Member C

Viewed 5870 times
photos uploaded:149
Points 1005
Favorite of 7 members

R1 = 6,7 R2 = 0,8 %

Member D

Viewed 44651 times
photos uploaded:364
Points 41153
Favorite of 141 members

R1 = 113,1 R2 = 35,7 %

Member E

Viewed 28594 times
photos uploaded:423
Points 13647
Favorite of 137 members

R1 = 32,3 R2 = 15,5 %

WELL WHAT'S YOUR RANK?

:rolleyes:

Didi 08-24-2010 05:22 AM

10 million times

Again point and ranks
Personally I don't care

kajenn 08-24-2010 05:55 AM

Well - as Keith explains it - an expert in a Forum site, not a photography site.

A member who wrote 1.000 "Thank you" is not an expert:D

:)

We take pictures just to satisfy our desire for art ..
We are posting photos on TE just for sharing with others
who care about the points/ranks?
I had a picture on TE, which only have low points and the picture had been bought at high prices.. Sso, why don't you pack your camera bag and go outside to take pictures without thinking about how much points/rank you will get later when posting it on TE.. :)

PEACE!:)

What is the meaning of the word : "expert"?

Look up expert in Wiktionary, the free dictionary..........!

An expert is someone widely recognized as a reliable source of technique or skill whose faculty for judging or deciding rightly, justly and status by their peers or the public in a specific well-distinguished domain. An expert, more generally, is a person with extensive knowledge or ability based on research, experience, or occupation and in a particular area of study. Experts are called in for advice on their respective subject, but they do not always agree on the particulars of a field of study. An expert can be, by virtue of credential, training, education, profession, publication or experience, believed to have special knowledge of a subject beyond that of the average person, sufficient that others may officially (and legally) rely upon the individual's opinion.

Experts have a prolonged or intense experience through practice and education in a particular field. In specific fields, the definition of expert is well established by consensus and therefore it is not necessary for an individual to have a professional or academic qualification for them to be accepted as an expert. In this respect, a shepherd with 50 years of experience tending flocks would be widely recognized as having complete expertise in the use and training of sheep dogs and the care of sheep. Another example from computer science is that an expert system may be taught by a human and thereafter considered an expert, often outperforming human beings at particular tasks. In law, an expert witness must be recognized by argument and authority.
